Editing  & Writing  Services

Writing responsibilities in education are significant. Projects large and small, formal and informal, are often time-consuming and daunting. As a result, it's common for procrastination, frustration, or uncertainty to impede or limit professional expressions. Such backlogs can become problematic for teachers, academics, scholars, administrators, and students whose expertise and reliability are conveyed through clear communication, meeting of deadlines, and quality output.

Are you working on an academic manuscript or presentation script, application or tenure materials, a curriculum or syllabus, a succinct bio or letters of recommendation, a program assessment for accreditation committee or school board, organization policy documents or a program handbook, or copy for a website, blog, or newsletter? Transcending the Classroom offers multiple editing and writing services to support your efforts.

Editing Services

  • Structural/Developmental Editing: attending to structure and organization of a preliminary draft of text, focusing on whether entire sections may need to be moved, added, or deleted to spur development of content and strengthen future drafts of the work.

  • Line/Stylistic Editing: attending to organization, tone, and flow within sentences, paragraphs, and sections in order to clearly and effectively communicate ideas and arguments with consistent narrative style.

  • Copy Editing: attending to technical issues like grammar and syntax while emphasizing internal consistency of elements such as terminology and messaging.

  • Proofreading: attending to final details like spelling, punctuation, capitalization, grammar, and formatting to ensure readiness for dissemination.

Typically, multiple editing services are completed together, then revisited as new errors arise in subsequent drafts. Structural/developmental editing and proofreading may be done as standalone services.

Writing Services

Transcending the Classroom writing services are collaborative. During one or more synchronous sessions clients are encouraged to think aloud in response to guiding questions and prompts, to follow their stream of consciousness in articulating ideas most important to them and most relevant to the project, and speak unencumbered by concern about tidying or prettying anything up along the way. Because all of this is transcribed in real time, clients' voices are captured, making it possible for Transcending the Classroom to render a refined reflection of clients' distinctive perspectives and narrative tone. No more need to feel insecure about your writing skills or "not sounding good on paper." Clients receive thorough final products that keenly address target audiences, conform to project specifications, have visual appeal and consistent branding, and constitute professional, polished, co-created texts that represent clients using their own words.

Editing & Writing Policies

  1. Transcending the Classroom will determine how intensive an editing or writing intervention a project requires. Materials will be evaluated to diagnose whether a light, medium, or heavy level of editing is needed, or what extent of new writing. No client will ever be done the disservice of receiving under- or over-edited materials.

  2. Written materials will always be jointly created, not authored solely by Transcending the Classroom.

  3. Some materials are ethically ineligible for writing services (e.g., scholarship for presentation or publication, blog posts).

  4. For documents such as résumés and CVs it is the client's responsibility to provide all requested content within the stipulated time frame. Delays in content provision will extend the timeline for delivery of materials.

  5. Clients will always receive finished materials that conform to project parameters. Only high quality work will be generated.
