What people like you are saying...

Julie is a master of shifting perspective in personal and occupational growth for educators, making it feel fun and achievable. And, that is not at the expense of content or magnitude. To me, Julie’s mentorship could best be described as a warm demander. Her depth of knowledge and expertise in educational strategies allowed her to quickly pinpoint areas of growth for me. That, coupled with her amicable and joyful approach to teaching, made for impactful and long-lasting learnings in and about the classroom and school systems. She seems to always have a solution or idea that will help move the dial when you are feeling stuck.

Julie has been very helpful in editing scholarly work I’ve written, as well as committee reports and web copy. Since I am personally an overly verbose academic writer, I thoroughly appreciated Julie’s work in streamlining my prose – never taking away from the specific content of a sentence or paragraph, but always helping to make my language usage as efficient and effective as possible. I deeply appreciated our frequent exchanges of documents and drafts, and I always knew that, when I got a document back from Julie, the thoughtful red markup and comment bubbles would provide a much stronger argument. Though we taught and researched in different areas, Julie and I also collaborated frequently on curricular design work. She has a unique ability to understand and explain both content and process, and I found it very helpful to work with someone with that kind of scope. I can recall many times where our committee work would appear to have hit a dead end, but Julie was always the one with a fresh perspective on the topic, or a unique turn of phrase that could get things moving again. She sees possibilities where others see roadblocks. Julie is an incredible collaborator, and she is not only very skilled at this kind of work, but she is also a genuinely caring person who is a pleasure to work with.

I could have easily lost perspective during a stressful job search. But Julie was clear headed and kept me centered while preparing me for EVERYTHING from start to finish. Getting over fears that I wouldn’t get interviews. Giving advice on which jobs to apply for, or not (red flags in postings and likewise, exciting hidden gems). Listening to me speak about my qualifications, capturing my thoughts, and presenting them in a personable tone that reflected me consistently in all materials. Updating and basically rewriting my resume, cover letter, and diversity statement, including multiple drafts targeted to specific types of positions. Responding to prompts in those unclear, fillable online HR applications. Choosing video clips to showcase my best work. Running practice interview questions. Preparing me psychologically for multiple interviews, including 2 on consecutive days. Interview outfit choice. No joke, I sent her photos and she helped me pick the right outfits! Brainstorming ideas for my teaching demo, talking through how to cover the required content within the short time provided. Outlining all the factors and creating a calm, thoughtful space for me to reflect on my priorities and follow my gut when I received multiple offers. Helping write emails to administrators while negotiating. SO MUCH SUPPORT. Having her as a sounding board, thinking together through what would be the best decision in the long term, and knowing that she was always there when I needed her was valuable beyond expectations. Julie’s coaching has big elements of counseling to it. She attended to every little thing so that I felt comforted, encouraged, and sure of myself. Julie reminded me, “Don’t worry, you’ve got this,” and with her help I did!

Dr. Beauregard was my academic, life, and career coach during my masters degree and I know for sure beyond that. Students don’t have a choice, we’re assigned to an advisor. It’s tricky if we want to work with someone we have more of a personal connection with. That’s really important. I talk to Dr. Beauregard more than my advisor because I can be vulnerable with her and I don’t get this feeling with faculty members. I’m very comfortable with her because she always listens, and I know I can always count on her to give me the best advice for the situation. I always fill Dr. Beauregard in with what I am considering for next steps in my career. Her responses are always positive. She is always excited about what’s next and always gives me the best advice. I was recently thinking about many options, which we discussed together, and I felt supported through the different advice she provided for all my different plans. Dr. Beauregard always believes in what I can do no matter what move or step I choose to take. As someone who plans to teach at the collegiate level, it has also been helpful for me to see how Dr. Beauregard scaffold a teaching methods course. She made sure I will be set up for success by providing multiple developmentally appropriate pedagogies–some of which were completely unfamiliar to me, varied instructional models, and an example of a syllabus I can see following in the future. I embed what I learned from her into my own teaching practice and I will continue to do so moving forward. I am just really blessed to be connected to her.

I wish this was available to me 30 years ago! I never liked writing letters of recommendation, and know a lot of professors like me find it difficult. You want to be complimentary but also honest. You don’t want to point out someone’s deficiencies but at the same time make sure you’re truthful since your reputation is attached. My tendency is to be very plain, listing the student’s skills almost like bullet points. When you write a letter like that it’s not very interesting and ultimately not convincing. Two former students recently asked me for letters for university teaching positions. I was so relieved when someone referred me to Julie for writing assistance! She helped communicate my ideas better than I could, and with a voice and wording that are what an administrator would want to read. She’d write a beautiful sentence after hearing me talk about an aspect of the student’s background, and I kept saying “yes, this is exactly what I wanted to say!” It was like a form of translation. Both letters we worked on were honest and personalized, and I think this was the first time I had students thank me for what I wrote. If writing like this isn’t something you do often, or your writing is technical or scientific, Julie will help you. Everybody has their own talents, and Julie’s is being able to express ideas in a clear way, even when they aren’t her own. I was thrilled with what she produced and recommend her to anyone!

Julie helped me through a tough transition in my career. A bunch of Transcending the Classroom services were valuable during that time—life and career coaching, writing, and editing. It was a difficult and overwhelming period for me, but I could always count on Julie to be compassionate and encouraging during our coaching sessions. She is incredibly knowledgeable and concise, and her work was done efficiently and in less time than promised! She helped me write a brand new philosophy statement, and a full CV pieced together from an old resume and information I dredged up in response to her specific prompts. The finished products are a polished version of myself that are as surprising in their beauty as they are in their accuracy. These documents are just what I needed as I make this change, and will be an invaluable asset for me to use for the remainder of my career. Thank you, Dr. B!

One thing I absolutely love about how Julie works is she creates space for me to talk aloud and think through my ideas, then condenses them into something that makes more sense on paper. Julie creates a safe sounding board where ideas can manifest into action, which I tend not to be able to do on my own. She’s an artist and creative, but also knows how to rein things in so the project stays on task. It’s not just how she works, which is strategic. It’s how I work, which can be a mess, circling around ideas without landing anywhere! For anybody who writes and creatives in particular, Julie is great at synthesizing millions of different ideas and making them coherent. She empowered my thoughts about developing a book project and professional website with actionable, definitive motion. Beyond that, she focused my ideas around marketing, logo and site design, and identifying my niche audience. With the book project, she brought clarity about how to organize and strategically build out different components–where elements would go within chapters, what pieces integrated where to strengthen the message, and finding a sequencing of ideas that flowed. She hears what you really say and makes it into useful content. When you reference your collaborative work later, the distilled ideas are ready for you to work with. Julie is really task oriented, but at the same time diplomatic, trustworthy, empathetic, compassionate, and easily relates to other artists, authors, and creatives. If you’re full of ideas and fumbling with what to do with them, do yourself the favor of contacting Julie!

Teachers need to be listened to. Julie has the ability to perceive seen and unseen factors in situations and meet them with clarity, compassion, and love. She has an uncanny ability to provide structure in what can feel like chaos. She has a strong guiding presence. She knows how to meet articulated and unarticulated needs and aspirations. This ability to receive the whole person emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually creates a space into which a teacher’s full wisdom can unfold. Julie can ground what comes forward in practical realities in order to usher a teacher into a fresh way of being.

Dr. Beauregard is a gifted communicator. Our interactions working together in service of professional organizations within education have provided me with the opportunity to witness her in action wordsmithing policy documents, and organizational responses to best articulate intentions and desired outcomes. Julie has an uncanny ability to ask probing questions, challenge assumptions, and synthesize various, often conflicting, input. These talents enable her to clarify and pinpoint meaning. During the middle of the Covid-19 Pandemic, Julie led the writing team to both revise organizational goals for our international professional organization, and craft our anti-racist position statement. Her skill set shined brightly as she positioned herself right in the middle of the mess and helped us emerge with a clear vision of where we were headed and how to articulate these developments to those we serve. Beyond her abilities and talents is the way she goes about her work with kindness and the deepest of care and consideration for all involved. I relish any opportunity to work with Dr. Julie for the service of others and for the betterment of my own writing and expression.

Julie’s impact on my academic journey was profound during my graduate studies. I highly recommend her services to ESL students in need of assistance with writing and editing. The individualized help she offered, and her methodical approach to giving feedback and facilitating improvement, had a huge impact on my academic achievement and helped me develop and thrive in academia. Every conversation I had with her was infused with enthusiasm, which motivated me to keep learning and doing research. She provided challenging, thought-provoking, and fascinating perspectives that encouraged analysis and critical thinking. Her expertise and supportive approach to coaching and scholarship significantly enhanced my writing skills and deepened my understanding. I developed a lifetime love for scholarly research under her guidance, which also helped me write better. Her advice was truly indispensable. She gave me the best learning opportunity to improve as a researcher and writer, and for that I am very appreciative.

A pillar of strength and dependable coach for teachers in public education, Julie has helped me through some big ups and downs. Specifically, during a traumatic experience I was placed in by a previous employer, Julie offered a compassionate ear with wisdom and empathy while I worked with her for over a year: figuring out what I could do without compromising myself, reminding me of my existing skills and how I could best use them during difficult circumstances, and showing me patches of light during dark times. I honestly can say that I was considering leaving teaching altogether. But Julie saw my strengths as an educator and provided the insight for me to recognize these strengths within myself. That gave me the inspiration to believe I could keep going in public education and reminded me of my passion for teaching. I have since moved into the job of my dreams in a well-respected school district, and feel independently able to sustain my self-resilience and motivation for the remaining years of my career. Plus I'm reenergized and doing some of my best work now! The expertise she brings from years of experience in education is both professional and heartfelt. Anyone who works with Julie at Transcending the Classroom will find themselves in caring and competent hands!

As a former teacher candidate turned full-time K12 educator, I am profoundly thankful for the exceptional support and guidance provided by Dr. Julie Beauregard. Serving as my mentor, she not only aided me in classroom instruction but also played a pivotal role in securing scholarships and navigating the intricacies of financial aid. Dr. Beauregard's commitment transcends the confines of the classroom, as she provides tailored mentorship and assistance in developing comprehensive lesson plans that not only captivate but also foster creativity and growth within my own classroom. Her fervent dedication to education radiates through every coaching session, cultivating a nurturing environment where educators are empowered to harness their pedagogical talents to the fullest. Through Dr. Beauregard's mentorship, I have not only flourished academically but also grown as an individual. Her influence on my educational journey is immeasurable, and I am forever grateful for her steadfast support and dedication.

I worked intensely with Julie on a departmental review intended to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of our educational program. The review involved data collection, compilation, analysis, and formal presentation in written and verbal form. The presentation was to be made to our administrators, our school board, our students and their parents and the community. Over the course of several months, under administrative supervision, all teachers in our department were expected to participate in this process and present together at the end. Well, this project was right in Julie's wheelhouse. Even though she was one of the newer staff in our department that year, she clearly had the best handle on the overall purpose of what we were doing and how we should get there. She picked up the pieces where many teachers dropped theirs. And when it came to piecing the final report together, she clearly had the knowledge and writing skills to write the report in an intelligent, clear and concise manner that made sense not only to professionals in the field, but stakeholders outside of the field. Even when our supervising administrator threw up their hands, Julie never lost confidence in the goal, and had the skills to help us get there on time and with a superior product.

Dr. Julie Beauregard mentoring me as a first year teacher is one of the reasons I am still teaching today. Her guidance during my first years of teaching were instrumental to my success and perseverance. I continue to use lessons and advice she had given me years ago into my work. As an instructional and life coach—providing comfort and advice during pivotal moments like death of a parent, marriage, depression and anxiety—Julie has given a helping and kind hand. The attention, experience and compassion she gives is one in a million. You will never regret bringing this warrior into your tribe.

Writing a professional bio should be a relatively easy task to complete, but sometimes the easiest tasks are the most challenging. Working with Julie made the process of writing about myself more objective. She did a great job of considering the context, reviewing my experiences, and crafting language that made me feel proud and -excited about who I am and what I do. I utilized Transcending the Classroom for a “simple” task and have every intention of seeking Julie’s advice and expertise for larger projects in the future. In academia, it is easy to get lost in the work. Julie supports you when you need help finding your way.

Before I started working with Julie, I was unsure about which career path to take, what careers would best suit my abilities, and how to navigate those careers. Julie helped me find careers that fit my specific skill set and interests. Discussing my skills with Julie allowed me to realize how much I have to offer, boosting my confidence. Because I was uncertain about which fields to pursue, Julie found job titles that matched my interest and ability. She helped me research different jobs and created a plan for me to start a career. Julie created a professional resume and cover letter for me, showcasing my skills specifically catered to the field I am interested in. I would recommend working with Julie because I now have a clear path and set goals, allowing me to see my potential and start a career that I am passionate about.

Julie Beauregard is a gift to people in academia. She worked with me on revising a book chapter and refining a job talk, and I have also had the opportunity to watch her in leadership. On the book chapter, the comments and edits she provided helped me strengthen the work. She is astute and analytical and her feedback is always extremely perceptive. The job talk she helped me with was for a high profile research gig and the talk time was 1.5 hours. I needed to get my presentation time down and we went slide by slide. She helped me tighten up my talk to fit all my material into an hour (leaving time for questions and conversation). With her assistance, I shortened my total time and kept all the content. Julie is a wizard at editing and my content became stronger. I have also worked with Julie in a leadership capacity on a committee. The committee was at a total impasse and Julie stepped in with an elegant solution that brought the whole committee along to her idea. In watching her do this, I know that I would also seek her help when dealing with a complex interpersonal situation. Julie is brilliant and I plan to continue to work with her over the course of my career.

I worked with Dr. Beauregard as an instructional coach while I was an undergraduate student. She was invaluable in shaping my path as an educator. We discussed using the classroom as a space of fostering unique student identities and creativity, which helped me see the power of education as a means of finding oneself. She encouraged scaffolding instruction in a way that meets every student where they are while also guiding them to grow in their own autonomous ways. I specifically enjoyed her demonstration of how to work with challenging students and seeing their joy in the validation of her outside-of-the-box instructional approaches. Dr. Beauregard deeply impacted my perspective in regard to a broad range of topics, and to just how personal and student-centered teaching has the power to be if you scaffold your curriculum responsively to student desire and need. She is an infinite source of wisdom and insight!

If you want to take your credentials to the next level and then some, Julie Beauregard’s services are the way to go. She helped me prepare my C.V. and not only made it look fantastic, but she also taught me how to format it consistently and elaborate with very specific details. These lessons helped me highlight the many things I knew I had accomplished but were hard to display clearly and to make them stand out. Julie also helped me with my cover letter, and interview preparation. I thought her suggestions to the letter made it sound confident and the interview prep included some great tips for looking your best and communicating effectively. Julie Beauregard provided instructional models and guidance during my teacher education program. Her approach to teaching is very collaborative, project-oriented, and student-driven. She recommended learning about students’ interests at the beginning of the year, then using that information to shape the content of each class’ curriculum. She also advocated for grouping students together and encouraging productive conversation while also allowing for individual work. She also emphasizes accommodating the abilities and needs of all students, and has numerous tools for encouraging advanced students to progress further, as well as enabling struggling students to be successful. Overall, Julie possesses a wealth of knowledge about education, and has effective techniques to promote learning across a wide variety of avenues. She inspired me to think critically about all aspects of my teaching, and provided me with a fresh perspective on connecting education with the individual interests of my own students.

I had the pleasure of working with Julie on a joint research project in recent years. She was a terrific partner. She had an easy way of keeping the big picture in mind while taking care with details, and we were able to collaboratively move the project forward with quality and efficiency. We carried this project to publication in an ideal edited book, and carried out a successful presentation of the work at a well-regarded international conference. Julie also provided mentorship for university students in a pedagogical methods class I taught. The university students were consistently appreciative of her guidance and enthusiasm. I have no doubt she is a terrific mentor and coach for all types of instructional and scholarly work; anyone would be fortunate to work with her and gain from her wealth of experience in music, teaching, and scholarship.

Julie is a super communicative and professional coach, editor, and writer. She updated my stale, old resume and wrote a new cover letter, and we practiced interviewing using her tips and strategies. She guided my researching of suitable positions and had me create a professional email account specifically for work-related correspondence. Details like that that I hadn’t thought of made a real impact. One interviewer even said the only reason they contacted me was because they couldn’t find any grammar errors in my cover letter or resume and the formatting was flawless! Those documents alone were such a strong jumping off point. Maybe most important was the encouragement she provided about me being highly employable. I felt reassured I would present well to prospective employers then land and nail interviews, and that’s exactly what I did. Working with Julie made my job search fast, easy, and successful, and I got several high quality job offers as a result of our work together! The professional and personal support she provides is invaluable. Thanks, Julie!

Dr. Beauregard played a vital role in getting me to where I am today in my career of music education. In high school, my counselors did their best to assist with looking for colleges to apply/audition at, but it wasn’t until I sought Dr. Beauregard’s help that I started making real progress. She was able to provide me with specific criteria that I should look for in each school while narrowing down my list, and assisted me with the research, as well as putting me in touch with colleagues that could further help with the process. This criteria ranged from considering colleges’ different financial packages, acceptance rates, specialties of study, surrounding environments (such as racial tones of the areas), full time vs. adjunct staff, and so much more that I wouldn’t have thought to look into. Without her help, I would not have landed at a college that was such a perfect fit for furthering my growth as a musician and a person.

Dr Beauregard was a vital part of my early career as an educator. Within our graduate cohort, she created a culture of accountability and professionalism. She encouraged me to practice these skills to ensure that I was ready for my first job as a teacher. Moreover, she was a REAL HUMAN while she taught the trade. Where the content that she taught was applicable, it was the way that she spoke to me on a personal level that brought me the belief in myself that I COULD become a teacher. She led by example on how to inspire students to be the best selves that they can be. I am forever grateful for everything that Dr Beauregard has done for me as a student and her coaching continues to contribute to my teaching every day.

Julie played an important role as an instructional coach during my student teaching. She observed my choral rehearsals, discussed teaching and learning strategies with me, and offered reflection tools. Julie designed a teaching reflection rubric to help direct my self-assessment. No teacher or conductor enjoys watching their own recorded teaching footage, but Julie helped to make this process enriching, manageable, and focused! Her diagram targeted my specific areas to be aware of; for example, did I state learning objectives in a clear way or did my conducting gesture convey the musical idea we were trying to express together? Julie’s assessment tool helped me to organize my thoughts in directed ways so that I could both celebrate my successes and make a few changes for my next teaching experience. Her thoughtful planning, perspectives on teaching, and modes of assessment continue to inspire me!

It's common for many people to seek out a coach when considering a career transition. While I recognize the value of coaches in this context, what I needed was someone to guide me as I started a new industry role after spending fifteen years in academia. Julie not only helped me reassess my skills and identity, but also demonstrated exceptional patience, knowledge, and the ability to offer valuable perspective. Her support during my transition into the industry was pivotal in helping me stay grounded and effectively utilize the unique skills I had developed during my academic career.
